Editing for Serial Genre Fiction

Starting at $10 / 1,000 words

My copy edit rates run on a scale from $.01 – $.02 / per word, dependent on how much editing is needed for your episodes. It includes a full copy edit of your words, including checking for consistency and accuracy in spelling, grammar, punctuation, word use, and sentence structure. I want your writing voice to shine, so I will only rephrase sentences with awkward phrasing, poor structure, incorrect idioms, filter words, or tonal shifts.

For individual serial episodes, payment is due in full at time of booking, and my turnaround is typically no more than 3 business days (up to 5,000 words). For batches of serial episodes that total $100 or more in editing, I offer the option to pay a 50% nonrefundable booking deposit at time of booking, with the remainder due upon completion of the edit.

How Does This All Work?

Step 1 - Free Sample Edit

Send me a 1,000 word sample from your serial (about 3 double-spaced Microsoft Word or Google Doc pages), and I will conduct a free sample edit. This helps you know if my editing style will work for you!

Step 2 - Book Your Edit

I will return your edited sample to you, along with a quote for the full project based on your estimated word count. If you decide to move forward, I will send you an invoice for the total due.

If you are booking for multiple episodes such that your editing total is $100+, I do offer the option to pay a 50% nonrefundable deposit upfront instead, with the remainder due upon completion of the edit. I accept payments via PayPal.

Step 3 - Editing

I will read through your episode(s), and make suggested changes using the method you have selected: either by using the Track Changes function of Google Docs and inserting comments and suggestions using the Comments function; or by marking up a PDF for your reference.

I use the Chicago Manual of Style, which is the preferred style guide among professional book editors. For spelling, I use Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary. I will return the edited episode(s) to you by our agreed-upon deadline. You then decide what changes you want to make to your story; I am always available via email to answer any questions you have about my suggested changes.

Step 4 - Publish!

Please let me know when your serial is published! With your permission, I like to include my clients’ serials in my completed works and testimonials. This is good advertising for both of us.

Working Magic by Jon Nagle

"Nia was an indispensable help. I had been over my draft personally several times, and had several beta readers review it, and she still found a number of typos and mistakes. Her attention to detail is top-notch—not just for grammatical errors, but for word use and internal narrative consistency as well. My book is a more polished, professional work because of Nia’s assistance, and I will absolutely be using her services again in the future."
